But for those of you who are limited on time and just need to quickly organize your kitchen cabinets then this one is for you!
Method #1: quickly remove all cabinet contents out.
Place everything out of the kitchen drawer or cabinet. Throw away what you do not need, donating what you have duplicates of, and neatly put each item back into the cabinets or drawers.
Categorize the items as you place them back into the kitchen cabinet or drawer.
Place similar brands together, breakfast items together, grains in one section and so one. Line up kitchen items neatly, tallest to shortest.
Also make sure all items are in sight. Tall items in the back, shorter items in the front.
Pros and cons of quickly organizing: method #1
Pros, items that are put back in the kitchen cabinet or drawer are the exact items you want to keep. You will throw out a lot of unused items. To donate items that are not used anymore will free up more space too!
Con, this method does take a little bit longer than method number two.
Method #2: one cabinet at a time, removing unnecessary items.
Method #2 is a little quicker and I think maybe more of what you are looking for.
I believe this method is the quickest way to organizing your kitchen cabinets and drawers. Here is how it’s done!
steps to quickly organize a kitchen cabinet.
- Set a timer for 15 minutes. Open up one cabinet and only allow yourself 15 minutes to clean that cabinet out.
- Quickly identify items would be thrown away. Throw those items away first! Don’t think too much about it, just select the items that need thrown out and do so.
- Assess items that have not been used within the past year. Will those items be in use again anytime soon? I encourage you to not think too hard and long about it. If they have not used then quickly discard or put them in the donate pile.
- The items remaining are the items that are going to be kept. Quickly organize the items left in that cabinet or drawer by category. In other words cereal boxes on one shelf, crackers on this shelf, cake mixes on this side of the shelf etc.
- Next categorize by either color or height. I believe height is best! Loose items put into an organizing bin or reuse a (clean, unused) shoebox to place loose pantry items into.
That’s it! It’s amazing what just 15 minutes will do. This process can be repeated with the timer to each cabinet in the kitchen, or at least do the most important ones while you have a little bit of extra time.
As you get more time to organize set your timer again and plan to organize another two or three cabinets. I have found that if I organize in a small bit of time I can get more done.
Especially if I don’t think I have to organize the entire kitchen, but I can quickly organize kitchen cabinets effectively when I choose to only do two or three at a time. It helps when I plan this time!
